Intro- This was a poem i wrote for my creative writing class earlier in the semester where we were tasked to write an elegey about something. I decided to write about one of my favorite TV comedies that ended right as it was hitting its stride. I highly reccomend the show to anyone and i believe Mr. Chappelle will be remembered in the same comedic glory as Eddie Murphy or Charlie Chaplan.
Racism kills....
Racism kills....
Is not what Mr. Chappelle thought
You knew it was special
From the start
A blind black KKK member
Really set his show apart
Making fun of stereotypes
Many knew it was wrong
Yet everyone couldn’t stop laughing
Even when he sang his diarrhea song.
Having Tiger Woods switch races
And creating the first black president
Sharing Charlie Murphy stories
While shouting Sam Jackson advertisements
The show brightened the mood
For an entire generation
Yet Mr. Chappelle fled to Africa
In fears of commercialization
